Contour lines

Contour lines show elevation and the shape of the surface on a topographic map. Contour lines are usually curved or straight lines. To make it much easier to read all the contour lines they are usually labeled every few lines. If the lines are very close together it usually means that the surface is very steep. However, if the lines are far apart it means the surface is leveled.
